Suspected Gang Member Shot By FBI Agent Identified

The agent was dragged about a quarter of a mile while trying to apprehend the suspect at a Sandy Springs hotel.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The FBI Atlanta Field Office has released the identity of the man who was shot by an agent trying to apprehend him last week in Sandy Springs. Cedrick Hill of Marietta remains in custody following the Jan. 5 incident, said spokesperson Kevin Rowson.

Hill was the sole defendant who was at large following a federal indictment on racketeering and other charges related to an investigation into the Nine Trey Gangsters. FBI agents and Sandy Springs police went to the Wyndham Atlanta Galleria at 6345 Powers Ferry Road around 6 a.m. Friday to apprehend Hill.

Hill was confronted in the lobby of the hotel, but fled on foot to the parking lot, Rowson previously told Patch. Hill, who was 25 years old at the time of his indictment, got into a white pickup truck and drove away from the hotel.

The FBI agent tried to stop Hill, but he got hung up on the truck and was dragged nearly a quarter of a mile, Rowson said. Fearing for his life and safety, Rowson said the FBI agent shot Hill. The alleged gang member was transported to an area hospital where he was treated while the agent suffered a couple of broken bones.

Hill, of Marietta, is among 30 members and associates of the gang named in the indictment issued in October, according to the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia. That indictment lists him as one of several defendants who conspired to traffic in meth, marijuana, prescription drugs and heroin.

As early as 2013, federal prosecutors believe the defendants committed murder, attempted murder, conspired to commit murder, robbery, extortion, firearm crimes, obstruction of justice and other crimes as part of their gang operation, the U.S Attorney's Office said.

"The alleged crimes relate to drug distribution in the Atlanta area and acts of violence perpetrated largely against the gang’s own members," said U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak. "Shockingly, the Nine Trey Gangsters in this case appear willing to kill someone or to commit violence over the smallest perceived slight. Thanks to the hard work of federal and local law enforcement officials, these individuals will now face prosecution for their alleged crimes."
