Teens Charged With Attempted Robbery, Battery In Sandy Springs

The 15-year-old boys allegedly tried to take a backpack from a man along Roswell Road Saturday evening.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Two 15-year-old boys were charged with attacking and trying to rob a man of his backpack over the weekend in Sandy Springs. Officers were dispatched around 9:54 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 to the area of 8611 Roswell Road in response to a robbery that took place near 8135 Roswell Road.

According to an incident report released by the Sandy Springs Police Department, the victim said he was in the area of 8135 Roswell Road when the two juveniles "tackled him to the ground."

They also began punching and kicking him, while asking "what you got?" The victim, a 38-year-old resident of Buford, added the pair tried to take the backpack he was wearing, but they were unable to snatch the bag from his grip (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. According to the report, one male was described as wearing shorts and a gray hoodie and another was sporting a red bandanna and burgundy hoodie. A witness who was traveling in the area saw the victim on the ground being punched and kicked, so he made a U-turn and began honking his horn to scare off alleged attackers.

"He observed offender No. 1 and offender No. 2 attempting to take [the victim's] property as he was laying down and clutching it," the report notes. "He said that offender No. 1 and offender No. 2 continued to beat on the victim for a few moments until the male in a burgundy hoodie and red bandanna tapped offender No. 1 on the shoulder and they left northbound."

The witness got out and provided assistance to the victim, and they both were able to positively identify the two juveniles as the alleged attackers. The two boys were transported to Sandy Springs police headquarters and charged with one count each of criminal attempt to commit robbery and battery. The victim suffered a small cut under his left eye, a small laceration to the left of his mouth, several small scrapes on his left elbow and swelling and bruising around and under his left eye, the officer wrote in the report.

The juveniles were later transported to the Metro Regional Youth Detention Center in Atlanta where they were held on the warrants.
