Thank you Rep. Karen Handel

BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer's Act

I want to take this opportunity to thank Representative Karen Handel (GA-06) for signing on to Cosponsor HB 4256, BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer's Act. The legislation would improve the nationwide response to this public health crisis by advancing effective public health interventions across the country and in Georgia. The legislation would also provide resources to Georgia and our local public health officials to increase early detection and diagnosis, reduce risk, prevent avoidable hospitalizations, reduce health disparities, support the needs of caregivers and support care planning for people living with the disease.

Representative Handel has shown the foresight in recognizing Alzheimer's Disease as the national health crises that it is. According to the Alzheimer's Association over 5.7 million people in the U.S. are affected by the disease and another approximately 15 million caregivers are needed to care for those with the disease. Those numbers are set to skyrocket as more of our baby boomers move into age groups that are exponentially susceptible to the disease. Much more work must be done to help our scientists, persons living with the disease and the caregivers. Yet we appreciate Rep Handel supporting this effort to help those of us in the 6th district and the state who are impacted by this horrid disease.
