The Cumberland Academy of Georgia, a private school serving students on the autism spectrum and other disabilities, reported on their Facebook page that the school was “robbed” Monday evening.
The “distressing event,” the school said, took place after it completed the addition of a music therapy room, a film room and the installed electronic equipment teared towards educational purposes.

“A window was broken and lots of equipment was stolen from those rooms as well as the student activity room,” the school said. “The saddest part is much of the equipment taken can only be used for educational purposes so once thieves realize what they have taken, they will probably trash it.”
All this was done just a few weeks before the first day of school, which is Thursday, Aug. 13, according to Cumberland Academy’s calendar.
According to an incident report released by Sandy Springs police, stolen from the school were: four AV projectors, collectively valued at $4,000; three 55’’ Sony flat screen televisions valued at $1,000; 13 Auvio headphones valued at $30; a studio microphone valued at $400; an Alesis mixing board valued at $500; and a $300 camcorder.
Sandy Springs police are investigating the incident, and the school said it’s reviewing video footage to determine if they can pinpoint suspects.
“We welcome any help from our school community,” the school states. “Also, know (that) we fully intend to begin the school year as scheduled and fully intend to continue our education programs with gusto.”
Cumberland Academy said residents can help replace the equipment by making a donation to the school, which can be done on its website.
