After defeating Class AAAAA Lakeside-DeKalb by two touchdowns in its opener, the Golden Bear of Holy Innocents’ again stepped up in classification last Friday night and emerged victorious. This time, the Class A Bears slipped past Class AA Blessed Trinity by a 17-14 final.
Connor Dolan scored both touchdowns for the Bears and a second-quarter 41-yard field goal from Walker Thomas proved to be the difference as Holy Innocents’ takes a 2-0 record into Friday’s game at Riverwood, which scored a 25-14 over its nearby rival last year.
Riverwood opened its 2013 campaign last Friday by building up a 24-0 lead after three quarters and ultimately defeating Cambridge by a 30-7 final. Kickoff Friday between the Raiders and Bears is set for 7:30 p.m.

North Springs, which had been winless its previous three seasons, opened 2013 with a 40-7 win over Cross Keys on Aug. 23 in Coach Steve Horton's first game at the school. The Spartans, though, were thumped 55-7 at McIntosh last Friday and will attempt to get back on the winning track this Friday versus visiting Hapeville Charter.
And Mount Vernon will again shoot for its first victory of the season this Friday night at Pinecrest Academy in Cumming.
