Overall total Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Part 1 crimes are down 7.53 percent for the year. Part 1 crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft, vehicle theft and arson.

“The men and women that comprise the Sandy Springs Police Department are a dedicated group,” said Mayor Rusty Paul. “They are visible within the community and have built strong relationships with our residents. Their commitment to the community is evident in the statistics we’re seeing today.”
Coupled with a pro-active approach to crime prevention that includes community education and involvement and re-active strategies for solving crimes that incorporate the latest crime analysis technology, the Sandy Springs Police Department utilizes this intelligence driven technology to quickly solve crimes and anticipate and prevent the probability of crime happening.
The strong relationships built within the department and the popularity of the community programs like safety classes, Citizens Police Academy, support for the Police Benevolent Fund, establish a department that is accessible to the community from the top down, throughout the ranks.
“When the department was established in 2006, we focused on the basics; being visible with active patrols, developing relationships within the community and enforcement of city laws,” said Police Chief Ken DeSimone. “That dedication has paid off. “
The total crime rate has dropped every year since the Sandy Springs Police Department was established in 2006.
