Volunteer For A Better Sandy Springs Returns April 22

The 15th annual event will feature residents donating volunteer hours to improve 21 local nonprofit organizations, public schools and parks.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- If you are looking for a great way to serve your community while getting to know your neighbors, then the upcoming Volunteer for a Better Sandy Springs Day is the perfect chance for you to network.

The annual community-wide service day, sponsored by Leadership Sandy Springs, will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22.

Volunteers will collectively donate hundreds of service hours to improve various areas around the city.

Entering its 15th year, the initiative has grown over the years as more sponsors and volunteers have stepped up to provide funding, materials, and labor to make improvements to 21 local nonprofit organizations, public schools and parks.

Work tasks will include landscaping, painting, carpentry, organization and general cleanup projects. Valued at over $600,000 in upgrades to our community, VBSS is an essential day of service that continues to benefit the city and embodies Leadership Sandy Springs’ mission of connecting individuals to bring value to our diverse community.

This year's work sites are Abernathy Arts Center, Big Trees Forest Preserve, Community Assistance Center, Crooked Creek Park, Dorothy Benson Senior Multipurpose Complex, Hammond Park, Heritage Sandy Springs, Island Ford National Park, Keep Sandy Springs Beautiful, Lost Corner Preserve, Sandy Springs Library, Sandy Springs Tennis Center, Watershed Alliance of Sandy Springs, and public schools including Dunwoody Springs Elementary, Heards Ferry Elementary, High Point Elementary, Lake Forest Elementary, North Springs Charter High, Ridgeview Charter Middle, Sandy Springs Middle School and Woodland Charter Elementary.

Kickoff for the event, which will take place rain or shine, begins at North Springs Charter High School at 7447 Roswell Road, with breakfast and VBSS T-shirts provided to registered participants while supplies last.

Sandy Springs City Councilman Ken Dishman will be on hand to inspire and personally thank volunteers. Following the kickoff, volunteers will disperse to one of the work sites.

Registration has begun and volunteers can sign up via the online form on the VBSS page of the LSS website.

This year, LSS is using Eventbrite so volunteers can check and see who of their friends are attending. Membership in LSS is not a requirement for participation.
