Volunteers Needed To Help Count Homeless Residents

The Point In Time Homeless Count will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 26 throughout Fulton County.

Sandy Springs, GA -- Fulton County needs volunteers for the Point In Time Homeless Count that will take place next week.

The count will be conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 26 by the Fulton County Continuum of Care.

Volunteers will work closely with county leaders, police and community organizations to gather accurate information about the number of homeless people residing within the many cities that make up Fulton County, including Alpharetta, Roswell, Johns Creek, Sandy Springs, Milton, Union City, College Park, Palmetto and Fairburn.

Interested volunteers can go online to sign up to participate in the count. Volunteers assisting with the Count will focus on single women with children, youth, and other unsheltered homeless who are sleeping in outdoor locations such as sidewalks, parks, encampments and under bridges.

The PIT Count will also include all of the sheltered homeless, who are staying in emergency shelters and transitional housing programs.

The count of people sleeping on the streets will be conducted between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. Volunteers should report to the following locations by 8 p.m.:

North Fulton Site
North Fulton Community Charities
11270 Elkins Road
Roswell, GA 30076

South Fulton Site
Lift CDC
5134 Old National Highway Suite C
College Park, GA 30349

Volunteers are needed to serve as driver, food servers, supply distributors and surveyors across north and south Fulton County.

The Homeless Count is crucial for tracking the success of local efforts to end homelessness in north, south and unincorporated Fulton County and is essential for planning future efforts to end homelessness. Volunteers will help identify vulnerable groups by conducting surveys that provide demographic characteristics, homeless history, homeless experiences, and other vital information.
