Watershed Alliance of Sandy Springs visits Lost Corner Preserve

Partnering organizations to help preserve our watersheds.

Watershed Alliance of Sandy Springs does 2 creek clean-ups a year, one in the fall and one in the spring (VBSS). Today, we completed our Fall clean-up at the Lost Corner Preserve. This "clean-up" was not at all typical of the ones we have done in the past.

Firstly, it was not really a clean-up because it was not littered with trash and other debris. It was actually pristine and very beautiful. We collected very minor items only filling a few bags where normally we fill 10 -15 large bags. We would characterize this outing as more of a way to support the efforts of maximizing the health of watershed on the property. So, instead of trash removal, we helped with clearing a dam so the water will go the right direction and preserve a tree. We also help trim back some bushes to help wildlife ecosystems.

Also, we were met with true experts on watershed preservation, Alan Toney and Virgil. They lead the way and we listened and asked questions. All of our volunteers and the WASS leadership team learned a great deal from these experts. We learned some history about the land, house, and community garden. We walked the trail, saw some beautiful tree and plant specimens. It was a real treat to have that level of knowledge all morning. It made our efforts to enhance their preservation efforts more meaningful.
