Woman Using ATM Carjacked At Gunpoint In Sandy Springs

The following information was obtained from an incident report released by the Sandy Springs Police Department.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- A woman making a routine trip to the ATM was able to escape a terrifying experience involving two men who robbed her at gunpoint and stole her vehicle in Sandy Springs.

Officers with the Sandy Springs Police Department were dispatched around 10:12 p.m. April 23 to the drive-up ATM at Chase Bank, which is at 5920 Roswell Road.

The woman told police she was withdrawing cash from the machine when two men exited a vehicle on the opposite side of the ATM.

As she was retrieving her card, she said the first male, who wore a black mask, approached the driver side of the vehicle, pointed a gun at her face and yelled, "get out of the car," according to an incident report released by the Sandy Springs Police Department.

The second male, who was not covering his face, approached the passenger side door, pointed a gun at the victim and also yelled for her to exit the vehicle, the report notes.

At one point, the woman said she "grabbed the gun a couple of times from the masked subject and pushed it out of her face," the report adds.

Both men eventually placed their firearms directly on her skin -- one on her temple and the other on her cheek -- and implored her to get out of the vehicle.

As she struggled to get the seatbelt off, the woman said the masked suspect helped her out of the car and jumped into the driver seat. The second male climbed in the passenger seat.

Both men, who eventually switched seats inside the 2012 Nissan Versa, peeled out of the parking lot while hastily running over a speed bump that caused damaged to the vehicle's front bumper and undercarriage.

According to the report, the vehicle circled the ATM twice before making a right turn onto Roswell Road.

As she was running away from the scene, the victim said she slipped in a puddle of water, but was not injured. She eventually made her way to Battle & Brew where she called police. According to the report, the suspects were described as black men in their 20's, but no other physical features were provided.

The robbers took $50 withdrawn from the ATM, Samsung Galaxy 7 cell phone and the woman's Coach wallet containing her identification and Capital One credit card.

After obtaining the tag number, officers listed the vehicle as stolen and less than hour later, they were notified the car was recovered by Doraville police. The vehicle was involved in a single car accident, which caused it to leak oil and gas at the time it was recovered.

Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477.
