Woman's Body Found In Carport In Sandy Springs

A male walking in the area discovered the mummified remains July 30 at a home near Allen Park.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The mummified remains of a woman were found late last month in a carport at a home in Sandy Springs.

Officers responded around 3:40 p.m. Sunday, July 30 to a report of a dead person at home on Allen Road near Allen Park. According to a report released by Sandy Springs police, the caller said he was hiking in the area and "stumbled upon the body while checking out the area."

"Upon my arrival I discovered a deceased female's mummified remains laying in the open carport," the officer added.

Sandy Springs officers called in for the assistance of the Fulton County medical examiner, who responded to process the scene and investigate the woman's death. According to the police department's Weekly Wrap Up, "items around the body (water bottle) indicated that she may have been homeless and died in her sleep some time ago."

An investigator with the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office told Patch the woman's identification is pending notification of her next of kin. She also said the cause and manner of death is undetermined at this point and due to the condition of the body, they are also unable to determine if she suffered any trauma.
