Savannah's Historic Forsyth Park Tennis Courts Renovation Completed (savannahtribune.com) — Tennis players in Savannah can now enjoy fully renovated community courts at historic Forsyth Park, open daily from dawn to 9 p.m. The city replaced deteriorated surfaces, fencing, and amenities to improve safety and play, and you can reserve court time through Bacon Park Tennis Center or the city's website as part of the Recreation Reimagined initiative.
2. Rep. Carl Gilliard to Host Road Dedication Events in Savannah (savannahtribune.com) — Several new road and bridge dedications are coming up in Savannah, honoring local leaders at churches, an events center, and Savannah State University throughout October. Hosted by Rep. Carl Gilliard, each ceremony includes a short program and motorcade to the newly dedicated interchange, bridge, road, or intersection, giving residents a chance to celebrate community figures and recent state resolutions.
3. Scheduled outage planned near W 38th Street as Georgia Power clears limbs (wsav.com) — If you drive or live near West 38th and 37th streets in Savannah, expect a planned power outage and traffic disruptions Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon as Georgia Power trims tree limbs. Traffic lights at key intersections along 37th will be out, with police directing vehicles and drivers urged to use alternate routes.
4. Coastal Heritage Society to host annual Battlefield Memorial March (wsav.com) — Savannah residents are invited to join the free Battlefield Memorial March on Oct. 9, starting at the Savannah History Museum parking lot on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The walk retraces soldiers' steps to Spring Hill redoubt, features musket salutes, and ends with a remembrance ceremony and new memorial stone dedication at Battlefield Memorial Park.
5. Savannah State alumna leaves $346,000 to support students (wtoc.com) — Savannah residents connected to Savannah State University will see a lasting boost from a $346,000 estate gift by alumna Gwen-Dolyn Cutter, split between athletics and the John Lewis School of Public Policy and Social Sciences. University leaders say the funds will expand opportunities for student-athletes and future public servants, strengthening the bond between the campus and the wider community for years to come.
