USDOT Awards $426M to Ease Freight and Highway Bottlenecks in 12 States (constructconnect.com) — Savannah is getting $11.3 million in federal INFRA funding to build a new four-lane connector from I-516 to a realigned White Bluff Road, a key part of Project DeRenne. The corridor will better serve Port of Savannah freight, Hunter Army Airfield, local hospitals, and hurricane evacuation traffic while improving storm culverts. Construction timelines and contractors have not yet been announced.
2. Dianne Alice Hollinger (familiesfirstcare.com) — Family and friends in Savannah are invited to celebrate the life of Dianna Alice Hollinger on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Silk Hope Baptist Church. Loved ones are encouraged to bring a favorite photo and memory as they honor her legacy as a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose humor and warmth touched many lives.
3. Boil water advisory affects nearly 100 Savannah homes (savannahnow.com) — A boil water advisory is in effect for about 100 City of Savannah water customers near East Gwinnett Street between Pennsylvania and Minnesota avenues, following damage to a water main during fiber work. If you live in this area, you should vigorously boil tap water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, or preparing baby formula until officials announce the advisory is lifted.
4. GBI investigating police gunfire after domestic disturbance call in Savannah (wjcl.com) — Savannah police and the GBI are investigating after officers fired at an armed man during a domestic disturbance Monday near East Gwinnett Street, prompting precautionary lockdowns at Hubert Middle and A.B. Williams Elementary. No one was injured, and 47-year-old Tyrel Javon Morgan was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the GBI.
5. Mirren, Moore to headline Savannah Film Festival (folioweekly.com) — Savannah will host the 29th SCAD Savannah Film Festival October 24–31, bringing Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, and dozens of other film and TV talents to downtown venues like Trustees Theater and the Lucas Theatre. Residents can catch around 70 features, 84 shorts, TV screenings, and numerous panels and Q&As, with all films playing only once. Check the festival site for the full schedule and celebrity lineup.
