Band of Stars' First Show of the Season
South Gwinnett High School's Band of Stars completed a weeklong, intensive training camp this week, learning their entire 2011 show in just four days. The band performed their show for an enthusiastic crowd of family and friends Thursday night.
"It's been a very good camp," Jimmie McKinley said.
McKinley is the director of South Gwinnett High School's Band of Stars, a group of 80 band members, color guard and dancers.
This week was camp week-- and the dedicated young performers spent four days and nights working on their 2011 show: Michael Jackson, The Experience.
The high school students practiced all week long, even spending the night at the school. Their day began at 7 a.m., and they practiced until 9 p.m. each night. Parent volunteers and sponsors provided food and refreshements for the band.

"We worked so hard we were able to get through our whole show in a week, and that's something not many bands are able to accomplish," McKinley said.
