Health & Fitness

Don't you hate I.V's? Ever had one go bad? I had Phlebitis develop from one.

For those of us that go to the hospital, doctor and lab a lot, we just get used to I.V.'s. Some hurt some do not. What do you think?

For those of us that go to the hospital, doctor and lab a lot, we just get used to I.V.'s.  Some hurt some do not.  I have had so many veins "blown" that I could never remember them all.

A couple of months ago, I had a reaction to medication and had to go to the Emergency Room.  I was close to Emory, at Clifton Road, so that was where I went.  I was shaking badly and the tech that inserted the I.V. "badly."  I kept that same one until they released me, from there I went home to rest my weary self.  My  went by, arm hurt but I just figured it was normal.  Well I was very wrong.

As the first day went by, my arm swelled and turned colors, then multible veins and my arm turned colors.  I went to Gwinnett Medical Center and was diagnosed with Phlebitis.  Superficial phlebitis involves veins on the skin surface. Rarely is he condition serious and, with treatment, it can usually be corrected, in time.

For weeks I had infection, cellulitus and lots of pain, all from one injected port.  I asked why and was told that it was common issue with Techs doing the I.V's.  WHY?  Who is dropping the ball?  Can anything be done, considering the thousands of times a day, in our hospital rich area that this is done?

Have you ever had this kind of issue?  Tell us about it.  I welcome comments from medical providers too.

Such a simple thing should not cause such trouble.
