Jada's Flight of Ideas: Farms and Farmers Markets

Jada's Flight of Ideas: Farms and Farmers Markets

One of my long term goals in life is to own a hobby farm with my hubby.  I've got it all planned out...from the cute little farmhouse with the wrap around porch, to the huge vegetable garden out back, chickens, a goat or two, and a little pig named "Porkchop".  Right now though, I'm knee deep in career, raising three kids, paying student loans, and living in a HOA that doesn't appreciate chickens, goats, or pigs.  So...until I reach the next chapter of my life, I'm probably stuck in the dreaming and planning stage of my farm.  I'm going to need some money too, and some land.  One dream at a time, one day at a time, right?

So, for the moment, I'm enjoying "farming" a 4x8 bed at the Snellville Community Garden.  Besides the pole beans, cucumbers, zucchini, and radishes in my little plot, I love meeting fellow gardeners, learning from them, and feeling part of a bigger movement of returning back to the land and a simpler time.  I like growing my own food!  I like that my children are learning something about food other than grocery shopping.  I plan to having something going year round in that little garden.

And...I'm so thrilled that the City of Grayson will be hosting a Farmers Market beginning in June!!   Every Wedsnesday, from 4-8pm, I can run to "downtown Grayson" and buy fresh eggs, local produce, and maybe even some local meat.  I am excited to become a part of that community too.  Maybe, someday, I'll be a vendor at that market with my co-farmer hubby....Someday!
