Shiloh Athletic Association Angels Team Spotlight:14u

Team Spotlight: Meet the 14u S.A.A Angels Softball team.

I would like to take the time to introduce you to the young ladies and coaches of our program. This week in our Team Spotlight I am introducing you to the SAA Angels 14u Softball Team.

I think the young ladies of this team are truly special. They are the oldest girls in our program and great role models for some of the younger girls. Last night I had an opportunity to attend one of their games and see all of the younger children watching them like they were stars. Since becoming a fan of softball and watching the girls as they develop their own personal style, in regards to “pitching” I have to say my favorite pitcher, pitches for this team :).

The girls are at varying degrees of skill; even at this age we have girls who before this season had never played softball and the delight on their face when they make a good play is still the same as if they were younger.

One of the things that I love about the SAA Angels is that the girls treat each other like sisters. They don’t always get along but the love that they have for each other is genuine. The Angels have spirit, heart, and awesome sportsmanship. Angels of all ages were cheering on their “big sisters” last night as they defeated South Gwinnett.

A special team has to have special coaches. This year’s team is led by head Coach Shelton McKellar and assistant coach Randell Phillips. “Coach Shel,” as we all know him, has a passion like many of us do to see our program grow for the girls. Not only is he head coach of this team, he is also the lead organizer of SAA Angels 1st Annual Walk Against Breast Cancer.

Coach Shel’s personal philosophy is that, in life, with anything “You can only get better,"  meaning whatever you do and work at , even if you work at it a little bit each day you will be better than you were the day before.

I asked Coach Shel to share a little info with us about the team:

Any fun facts/accomplishments: "The girls are great. At first I was scared because I am still brand new at the head coaching thing. As weeks go on I have more confidence in my coaching ability; it might not be the best, but it’s going.....and the girls respond to me very well.

We have to realize everyone has a different approach to coaching and I do what works for me. I think one of my accomplishments is understanding the philosophy of coaching and learning by watching Commissioner Perkins, Coach Reuben Phillips and Coach Felita Bell because of their experience on the field. I try to read about different tactics and plays for softball everyday to understand. I am a student of the game."

I introduce to you the SAA Angels 14u Softball team: Briaunna M., Brianna C., Briana P., (how ironic having three Bree's), Shawntrice, Denayt, Aniya, Jasmine, Tra'deshiannia(deshia), Kayla, Kyla, Destiny, Jordynne and Deltree.

Team Mom: Ms. Shannon – (she's the BOMB)

Head Coach: Shelton McKellar

Assistant Coach: Randell Phillips

Current Record: 2 wins; 1 Loss

Coach Shel does have a great team and we all love to see the Ladies of the 14U Angels hit the field! Good Luck on the rest of the season!!
