Time2Inspire Performs at Eastside Gardens

The students of Time2Inspire School of Arts had the awesome opportunity to perform for the Senior Citizens at Eastside Gardens in Snellville.

Welcome to Arts in Snellville with Lonnie and Alisa Boykin, the facilitators of Time2Inspire School of Arts in Snellville.  On Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at 5 p.m., Time2Inspire went to Eastside Gardens in Snellville and did a performance to support a campaign called “Arts for The Ages”.  Several young performers did a variety show of acting, dancing and singing.  The senior citizens were in tears and embraced the children with hugs and words of support.

The performance started off with a vocal rendition of Whitney Houston’s “One Moment in Time”, followed by a hip hop dance and then a theatrical rendition of Martin Luther King Jr’s, “I Have a Dream” speech and vocal performance. Afterwards, one of the seniors said that there are so many bad things that they see on the news, it was good to see young people doing something positive.

Accepting this invitation was very important for us to do because it is something special when the old and young get together.  There may have been older people who always dreamed to do the things that they saw the children do.  Performing the arts could have been a childhood dream and they were able to re-live their youth again.  Not only that, but the youth were able to receive wisdom from the seniors.

It was interesting to see the old and the young relate and come together through the arts.  These senior citizens had such a sense of youthful innocence as their beautiful smiles illuminated the room with a gleam of hope in their eyes.  They held the hands of the children and looked at them to say that they enjoyed them and that they should continue their path to someday have success.

The children’s response to this was sheer flattery and it gave the children a confidence to stand tall and proud.  The approval of a generation of great grandparents was more than anyone could ever ask for.  In a society that can become so out of touch with the impact that the arts have, the seniors of Eastside Gardens raised their hands to applaud this new generation of performers.

After the performance, the children went to each of them to thank them for allowing them to come and hugged them.  The seniors loved this and took many pictures with the children.  One of the older gentlemen said that he was about to get up and bust a move with our hip hop dancers.  I am sure that many of them wanted to put those wheel chairs and walkers away and dance like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.  The children became their hands, feet and voices so that they were able to dream and this is one of the reasons the arts are so important.

With this being said, dreams are important for the young and old.  To dream is to envision.  The vision that an artist has is one that illustrates performing excellence with the world as a stage.  Through time the physical ability of a person may decrease, but the heart beats the same.  The passion to perform exists in the young and the old, but the old can live again through the young for it is a perfect combination.  We must embrace the illustration of creativity called the arts, so our vision is to start a revolution and not a rebellion.  We want to give to our world the inspiration needed to heal, love and to be free.

Join us on Sunday, September 23rd at 4pm -8pm at Time2Inspire School of Arts located at 2400 Wisteria Drive in Snellville for our fall Block Party.  Celebrate the arts with a song and dance concert.  We are also doing a talent show with competitions in dance and vocals.

If you are interested in being in the talent show, auditions are 1pm and finalists will do the public show at the Block Party.  Winners will receive studio time to record a demo, scholarships and prizes.
