Britt Elementary Educator Named Georgia Teacher of Promise

Britt Elementary educator Sarah DaSilva has been named a Georgia Teacher of
Promise by the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

This award is presented to a new mathematics teacher in Georgia who has no more than three years of teaching experience and demonstrates qualities of excellence
in the teaching of mathematics, according to a news release from Gwinnett County Public Schools.

DaSilva was honored for her creativity, integrity, and commitment to the achievement of all learners in the classroom, according to a news release from GCPS. She teaches the first grade in the South Gwinnett cluster.

“Sarah DaSilva is an outstanding young educator who uses effective and challenging instructional strategies,” says Doris Jones, principal of Britt Elementary in describing the work of Ms. DaSilva. “She also builds positive relationships with students and parents resulting in high levels of academic achievement for her students.”

The Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics describes Ms. DaSilva as a master at differentiation who sets high expectations for students and therefore all of her students learn at high rates. In addition, she is known to be a model teacher for other teachers as she shares her lesson plans, learning tasks, and assessments with her peers.

Ms. DaSilva joined Britt Elementary and the school district in 2010. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia College and State University.
