Brookwood Graduate Wins $8,000 Georgia-Pacific Scholarship
Each year, the company awards 50 scholarships to children of employees across the country.

SNELLVILLE, GA — Stephen An, a recent graduate of Brookwood High School in Snellville, has been selected as a recipient of a Georgia-Pacific Foundation Employees’ Children Scholarship. Each year, the company awards 50 scholarships to children of employees across the country. Georgia-Pacific presented Stephen the scholarship at an event earlier this month.
Stephen is the son of Yi-Sen An and Ling Chen. An is an IT manager for Georgia-Pacific. At Brookwood High School, Stephen was a member of the Tri-M Music Honors Society and the Spanish Honors Society, and was an officer in the Future Business Leaders of America. He also performed at Carnegie Hall with the Brookwood Philharmonic Orchestra. This fall, Stephen will attend the University of Georgia with plans to follow his father into the world of computer science, hoping to become an applications programmer.
The Georgia-Pacific Foundation Scholarship Program for Employees’ Children awards $2,000 per year for up to four years of full-time college undergraduate study or until baccalaureate degree requirements are completed, whichever occurs first, for a total maximum award of $8,000.

“Awarding scholarships to the children of Georgia-Pacific employees is particularly rewarding – we congratulate the students on their hard work and superior academic achievements,” said Curley M. Dossman, Jr., president of the Georgia-Pacific Foundation. “We look forward to their continued leadership and wish them success in the next phase of their academic careers.”
Since the scholarship program began in 1988, Georgia-Pacific has awarded 1,550 scholarships totaling more than $12 million. The program is administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and is open to children of all active, full-time employees of Georgia-Pacific in the United States. More than 250 applications were received for the 2018 scholarship program.
