Brookwood's Eric Mapoles Nominated for 'Good Works'

A former Brookwood High School standout has been nominated for the AllState American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team.

Eric Mapoles, a linebacker at Wingate University, is one of 182 nominated for the award, called the most prestigious off-the-field honor in college football.

A team captain as a senior, Mapoles received the Brookwood leadership scholarship following his final season. He posted 101 tackles and five quarterback sacks as a senior and was selected for the 2011 Gwinnett County All-Star game following his final campaign.

Among Mapoles’ “Good Works” were:

Traveling to Jordan on a mission trip to try and bridge the gap between Christian and Muslim cultures.

Visiting sick children at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte.

Raising money to build water filtration systems in African through Beyond Poverty.

The 22 winners — 11 from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 from smaller divisions — will be named in September.
