Construction Begins on Oak Road Passive Park
The 5-acre park is located on Oak Road between Scenic Highway and Mountain View Road.

Construction began Tuesday (Dec. 10)ย on Phase 1 of Oak Road Park.
The project began just a week after theย Snellville City Council and mayor had approvedย the contractย to start workย on the park at a special-called meeting Dec. 2.ย
The 5-acre park, located on Oak Road betweenย Scenic Highway and Mountain View Road, was purchased in 2003 with Governorโs Green Space Program Funds. The parkย will remain as natural as possible as outlined by the programโs designation, according to a news release from city of Snellville spokesman Brian Arrington. ย

The park was part of the cityโs original master plan completed in 2006. Funding for Phase 1 comes in the form of $150,000 in Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds approved in 2009.
Phase 1 of the project will clear an area in the front portion of property and also remove all invasive species of plants from entire site, as well as cutting the natural trail outlined in the master plan.ย

The main part of Phase 1 will be complete in about two weeks, but invasive plants will continue to be eradicated using spray in the next year.
