GCPD Officer Resigns After Arrest in Barrow County

A Gwinnett County officer and former public information lead has resigned following an arrest for soliciting an act of prostitution.

PRESS RELEASE/Gwinnett County Police Department

In the evening hours of June 11, 2012, GCPD received notification that Cpl. Brian Kelly (of this agency) was arrested by the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office on May 31, 2012.  Kelly was charged with pandering (soliciting an act of prostitution).

It was determined that Kelly had not reported that he was an officer to Barrow County, nor did he report his arrest to Gwinnett PD. Officers in the Gwinnett PD are required by policy to immediately report an arrest to their supervisors.

As a result of Kelly’s failure to report his arrest to Gwinnett PD, he was served with a letter of intent to terminate his employment. Kelly resigned in lieu of termination this afternoon (June 12, 2012).

Kelly was a public information officer for Gwinnett PD for approximately two years, ending in late 2010. He was employed as a police officer with Gwinnett PD since October 2003.
