Got Flip-Flops?

The Snellville Old Navy is part of a nationwide program to recycle all those old flip-flops and turn them into playground material.

Every year millions of used flip-flops are discarded and end up in landfills, and Old Navy together with TerraCycle want to do something about that.

Now through May 21 Old Navy Stores across the United States, , are collecting used, dirty and broken flip-flops. Anyone is able to drop off their old flip-flops in a box located near the entrance of all stores.

The store is collecting flip-flops of all shapes and sizes, but not sandals, or others types of shoes. The donated flip-flops can be either rubber, leather or cloth.

Old Navy will then send those boxes of flip-flops to TerraCycle, which hosts national recycling programs for items not previously thought to be recyclable. TerraCycle will then grind up the flip-flops so they can be used in playgrounds. Old Navy will then give away these playgrounds to local communities that participate in TerraCycle programs.

There is no purchase necessary to participate in the program, those who donate flip-flops do not need to sign up with TerraCycle.
