Guns, Checkbooks Among Stolen Belongings in Car Break-Ins

Ford trucks in the Academy Sports, Applebee's and LA Fitness parking lots were broken into on the same evening earlier this month.

Another string of car break-ins to FordsΒ were reported on the same eveningΒ earlier this month at businesses on orΒ near Scenic Highway.Β

According to Snellville Police Reports, the earliest reportedΒ incident occurred atΒ Academy Sports, located at 1585 Scenic Highway. The victim, 39, had parked his Ford F150 in the parking lot at 5:45 p.m. When he went back to his vehicle at 7 p.m., he noticed his backpack missing, which contained hisΒ gun, business checkbook andΒ personal checkbook.Β

There was damage to the front of his car, too. Police believe someone had broken off part of the cover surrounding the driver's side front door and keypad in order to gain entry in theΒ vehicle.Β

After half an hour being away from his car, aΒ 56-year-old man reported that his car, a FordΒ Super DutyΒ SRWΒ pickup truck, was broken into at Appleebee's down the road.Β

The officer noted in the report that aΒ puncturing tool was used to punch a hole under the lock on the driver-side door in order to gain entry. The victim's pistol firearms range bag, electronic hearing protection, eye protection, 100 rounds of ammunication and a prescription ofΒ Lortab were taken in the theft.Β Β

The same type of Ford truck was entered in almost the exact same way in theΒ last reported entering auto in the area that night. While at the LA Fitness on Pinehurst Road, the 22-year-old driver'sΒ fuel card, two debit cards and an insurance card were taken out of his wallet, which was in a backpack in his car. He told police that he didn't know his vehicle had been broken intoΒ until he came home, since the damage was done to the passenger's side.Β
