Each year it gets to be more difficult to decide which is the place that is the most rewarding to visit for photography. This year it will likely be Jackson, WY again. I was there in October last year and spent ten days driving around seeing all the sights that amuse photographers. Perhaps the grandeur of the place makes you take the beauty of the High mountains for granted. And then there are so many different kinds of wildlife that are truly accessible for you to photograph. Such a great problem to have!!
When you head north out of Jackson you see the National Elk Refuge as you leave town. Then within five or ten minutes you are into the Grand Teton National Park. Seems like there is no end to the "keeps getting better" scenario here, doesn't it! Next headed north you come to Oxbow Bend where I made the photo on my last blog. Then it takes a little over an hour or 60 miles to arrive at Yellowstone NP. It is another place that is beautiful with abundant wildlife. It has a tremendous diversity to enjoy! Yellowstone Falls is certainly an awe inspiring site to see with a real challenge to figure out how best to photograph it. The direction of the sun when it hits the water makes timing very important as to what time to be there for photography. But these are the things that make a photo safari so much fun.
Shopping there is fun in case you take a spouse who may not enjoy getting up hours before sunrise to catch a bear sneaking down to the stream for a drink. There are several art galleries of both paint media as well as huge photo galleries, and bronze works. Tom Mangelson lives there and has home offices for his huge photo gallery operation. Nice restaurants offering various cuisine are everywhere. On the square in the small town is an interesting gateway It is made of antlers from all the deer, moose, and elk who discard their antlers each year. So all in all there is something to keep everyone entertained while a serious photographer can enjoy the time of his/her life!
If there is anyone out there wishing to go on this trip in September please get in touch because reservations are getting more difficult to capture. This is not a business for me and there is no profit involved. We would just share expense on hotel and rental cars. But it is so much fun to do and my wife is very busy with her business here in Snellville. My website is www.carneypictures.com and you may see results from my previous trips and get contact information there!
