House Fire Displaces Snellville Family
Residents were displaced from their home when a house fire consumed a home in the 2400 block of Bankston Circle SW in Snellville.

SNELLVILLE, GA – A family was displaced from their home Jan. 16 when a house fire consumed a single-family residence in the 2400 block of Bankston Circle SW in unincorporated Snellville. The homeowner was not at home at the time of the fire and no one was injured. The investigation indicates the fire originated in the area of the chimney chase, according to Gwinnett Fire Department.
Multiple neighbors reported a house fire with smoke and flames visible. When fire crews arrived the on scene, they found single-story home with heavy fire involvement in the rear of the home and through the roof. Immediate exposure protection was initiated for the house on the left side of the home. Multiple attack hose lines and an aerial apparatus were utilized to bring the blaze under control. Firefighters were able to make entry to complete extinguishment and conduct a search of the structure. The home appears to be a total loss. The homeowner was not home at the time of blaze.
Red Cross assistance was declined and occupants are staying with friends in the area.

A fire investigator was requested to respond and assist with the origin and cause determination. The homeowner reported having a fire in the fireplace earlier this evening.
Firefighters encourage all residents to practice home fire safety, especially during the winter season. Be sure to install working smoke alarms on every level of the home and in each bedroom. Develop a home escape plan and practice fire drills regularly. Check and maintain home heating appliances such as the furnace, fireplace and space heater.

Equipment on the scene included: three engines, one ladder truck, one squad, one air/light unit, one medic unit, two battalion chiefs and two fire investigators.
