8-Month-Old Dies After Left In Car For Hours, Father Faces Murder Charges: Reports

SNELLVILLE, GA — A father has been charged with second-degree murder after a baby was left in a hot car for several hours, according to reports.

Snellville police are investigating the death of an 8-month-old who was brought to a Snellville emergency room dead after spending hours in a hot car, reported WSB-TV. The father, Davied Japez McWorry Whatley, has been charged with second-degree murder, according to police.

The grandmother brought the baby to a local hospital around 9 p.m., nearly seven hours later, telling staff that the baby was left in a car after a traffic stop, reported WSB.

According to WAGA-TV, the child, Nova Grace Whatley-Trejo, died from being exposed in the car.

The news station also reported that police said Whatley entered the department lobby shortly after 2:15 p.m. to pick up a gun police had. While there they discovered Whatley had a warrant out for his arrest for a probation violation. He was arrested and taken to the Gwinnett County Jail

Whatley’s car was found parked near the dumpsters by the Snellville City Hall, investigators told WAGA-TV. He never mentioned his daughter was in the car, they said.
