Results of recent Gwinnett County restaurant inspections in Snellville by East Metro Public Health with a synopsis of deficiencies found by the inspector. These are reports over the past week.

Name: Norton Elementary High School
Location: 3050 Xavier Ray Court
Score: 100/A

Name: Sam's Caribbean Grill and Bakery
Location: 1982 East Main Street
Score: 93/A
Previous Scores: 87/B (Aug. 5, 2010); 95/A (June. 4, 2010)

  • Container of glazed pastry left in original container after opened, thought all foods must be stored in separate food container after opened.
  • In-use rice serving spoon held in water at 82 degrees, though it should have been stored at 135 degrees.
  • Rear door with two-inch diameter round hole from old lock. Eatery must cover hole to prevent insects/pests from entering food service area.

Deficiencies observed: Observed employee making turkey wraps that did not have written temperatures and times on them.

Name: Yummy Yummy Deli
Location: 2624 Cindy Lane
Score: 92/A

Deficiencies observed: Hand sink next to hot-holding unit was dirty, boxes of disposable plates stored directly on floor, and most current inspection report not posted.

April 28:

Name: Hong Kong
Location: 3550 Centerville Highway, Suite 106
Score: 60/U
Previous Scores: 84/B (March 18, 2011); 71/C (March 9, 2011)
Deficiencies observed:

  • Employee was observed cutting green peppers with no gloves on. This was a repeat violation.
  • The person in charge did not know what the employee health policy was. This was a repeat violation.
  • Three cans in the dry storage area were found to have dents on the top, bottom, or side seam.
  • The can opener was being stored as clean with visible build up of food and debris on the blade.
  • Can of raid found near the water heater.
  • A large container of flour in food prep area and several small containers of salt and sugar at the chef’s station were not properly labeled.
  • Food not stored at least 6 inches above the floor.
  • Due to repeat violations this facility was closed last week, and then allowed to open one day later after correcting violations. The new score was 100/A.

April 28:

Name: Peach Wave
Location: 3550 Centerville Highway, Suite 106
Score: 78/C
Previous Scores: 79/C (April 19, 2011); 91/A (Dec. 10, 2010)
Deficiencies observed:

  • Person in charge could not provide answers to basic food safety questions relevant to the facility and its operations.
  • Person in charge did not know what the employee health policy was.
  • Several spatulas were found being stored in the hand-washing sink.
  • Proper cleaning method not being used by facility to clean table tops after guests leave and to clean food surface counters.
  • Several spray bottles of apparent chemicals were found with no label.
  • Several boxes of yogurt containers being stored directly on the floor.
  • In-use, wet wiping cloths not stored in an approved sanitizing solution
  • The current inspection report was not being posted at time of inspection.
  • The spoons for customers are being stored with the spoon surfaces facing up.
  • Facility is apparently using bleach as a sanitizer and no test strips were available at time of inspection.
