Vehicular Homicide Arrest Follows Crash That Killed Snellville Woman

A 21-year-old was arrested Wednesday in connection to a car wreck that killed U'Lawnda R. Lewis.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's OfficeΒ arrested a Loganville manΒ Wednesday (Nov. 6)Β in connection to aΒ fatal carΒ wreck that killed a Snellville woman.

According to Gwinnett County Jail records, Thomas C. Embry, 21, has been charged with vehicular homicide,Β reckless conduct, improper/erratic lane change, motor vehicle on the wrong side of the road, failure to exercise due care andΒ vehicle seat belt required for front seat. His bond totals toΒ nearly $8,000.Β 

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision, whichΒ occurred Friday (Nov. 1) around 10:30 p.m. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, Embry'sΒ pickup truck failed to maintain its lane andΒ slammed headfirstΒ into a Nissan QuestΒ on Highway 78 near Haynescrest Drive in Grayson.Β 

The driver of the van,Β U’Lawnda R. Lewis, 40, of Snellville,Β died at the scene.

Both EmbryΒ and a 17-year-old in Lewis' car were transported to the hospital. Embry complained of injuries, and the teenager had a head laceration.Β 

The AJC reportsΒ that Embry had been trying to take offΒ his jacket and was distractedΒ when the collision occurred. He was released from jail Wednesday night after posting bail.Β 

Lewis wasΒ preceded in death by her mother and is survived by her husband, Ronnie Lewis Sr., of 10 years, according to her obituary.Β Read her full obituary on Patch.
