Currently, park officials are in the process of determining the future needs of the more than 94-acre park on Lenora Church Road as part of its Master Plan. On Oct. 7, about 20 citizens came to the first of two public meetings designed to gauge needs at the park. Those at the meeting were most concerned about improvements to the park’s tennis courts, according to park officials.

At the next meeting, there will be a presentation of two plans which contain the same elements, but are essentially laid out differently. Both plans include more parking at the pool, official-sized basketball courts, more play areas, a larger community building, a fitness center, walking track, updated park offices and a new meeting room.

“We are adding to the parking which is always an inconvenience here,” said Park Director and Maintenance Supervisor Lisa Platt.

After the upcoming meeting, project engineers HDR Inc. of Atlanta, will compile input from the Mayor and Council and residents and complete a project plan which will be voted on for approval by the Mayor and Council.

This month, the park is undergoing upgrades as part of Phase IIB of the Master Plan. New ball fields, a concession, restroom and storage building, fitness trail resurfacing and a resurfacing of current and a creation of new parking spaces are ongoing.

The $2.5 million project is slated to take place through spring of 2015.
