New Pet Resort Pads into Town

Snellville Pet Resort is now open, and awaits your furry friends.

It can be stressful when planning a vacation and deciding what to do with your pets. Now, pet parents in the area have a new option with the Snellville Pet Resort.

This past Friday evening, dozens of people attended Snellville Pet Resort’s sneak preview. Owner Shelton Stroman greeted and mingled with guests and took time to explain what sets his store apart from other pet boarding facilities.

Stroman understands that pets need special attention that can require more than just food and water. That idea of special attention is what led him to follow his dream of opening a pet resort right here in Snellville.

Stroman had a favorite dog growing up named Brownie that unexpectedly passed away at an early age. Unfortunately, no one knew why, which led Stroman into his career in the veterinary field. He worked for 8 ½ years at Petsmart’s Banfield veterinarian care.

Through his experiences, he came to believe that dogs should be treated like family. He realized that they can suffer extreme separation anxiety.

“Working at Banfield, I had a lot of clients that really had complaints about how their pets got treated or came home with some kind of virus after being picked up from a boarding facility,” Stroman said. “I just couldn’t understand why until I went out and viewed some of the places and understood. How would I feel to be in a kennel for the whole day?”

What differentiates Snellville Pet Resort from a simple boarding facility are the large but separate play areas for dogs, in-room televisions, specials duplexes and a suite for sibling dogs who want to stay together. There is even a cats-only area that includes cat condos, a play area and toys.

Dan Barnhill, a guest at Snellville Pet Resort’s preview, is the owner of and a pet owner himself.

“I like the fact they are very centered on keeping the dogs stress free, such as providing TV for them and asking you to bring clothing with your scent on it,” Barnhill said.

Another favorite aspect of Barnhill’s are the surveillance cameras that monitors pet guests. Owners will be able to log onto their website and view their pets.

Stroman owns the business with Dr. Christopher Inniss, a veterinarian with 11 years experience. Together they provide a team that helps ensure animals stay healthy and in good shape.

Every room has a separate mailbox for medications, and food is asked to be brought in individuals bags so your pet can be fed exactly as it would be at home. All dogs staying over three days receive a departure bath before returning home. According to their website, the owners are certified in pet first aid and CPR.

The resort also has an elaborate store that sells everything from gourmet food and biscuits to rhinestone collars and doggie dresses.

“I want the pet to feel the same way they do at home,” Stroman said. ”Your pet is able to run around at home, have space, watch TV or go outside. Same thing we want to offer here.”
