T.W. Briscoe Park is getting a facelift and city officials want residents’ input on how to improve the park in the future.
There will be a park master plan public input meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Briscoe Park office, located at 2500 Sawyer Parkway. City officials are asking residents to attend the meeting and let them know what features can be added to improve the park during future construction projects.

In the meantime, a phase of construction began at the park Monday and is slated to continue into March of next year.
The $2 million upgrade will include two illuminated adult slow-pitch and girls fast-pitch softball fields, a new building housing concessions, restrooms and storage, a playground and a small pavilion area. The park will also get a new 95-space parking lot, a reconfiguration and relining of the Parks and Recreation Department office parking lot and a new surface and extension of the fitness trail.

“We are very excited that the next part of the Briscoe Park Master Plan is finally under way,” said Parks and Recreation Department Director Lisa Platt said. “The upgrades and improvements we have been making to Briscoe Park since 2006 are much overdue. These changes and upgrades will allow our maintenance expenditures to decrease as we have been struggling to keep the old facilities in a safe and usable state for many years past the appropriate life expectancy. If the citizens and visitors to Briscoe Park have some patience over the next few months while the construction moves forward, I think they will be pleasantly surprised at the quality and upgrades that are continuing to evolve at the Park. It is the citizens’ tax pennies hard at work as the (Special Local Option Sales Tax) funds are what is behind our ability to make all these much needed improvements. As we continue to serve the residents and visitors of Snellville I think they will be very pleased with the end results of Briscoe Park Phase IIB.”
This is the first major upgrade at the park since December 2012 when a multi-purpose field and parking lot were added.
