Snellville Boy Scout Works on Hornaday Conservation Project

Bobby Nice, a star-rank Boy Scout with Northeast Georgia Council Troop 548 in Snellville, is working on a Hornaday conservation project at the Dunwoody Nature Center in Dunwoody, Georgia. Bobby, 13, has been in scouting for the past eight years. His interest in science, nature, and the environment have contributed to his desire to complete a Hornaday project.

Conservation work that Bobby is completing at the Dunwoody Nature Center includes invasive plant species management; and regularly maintaining bird feeders and bird baths with fresh seed and water. Additional work involves building and replacing bird houses; spreading mulch on walking trails; and trimming shrubbery. Currently, Bobby's primary activities involve digging up, cutting away, and removing invasive plants such as Chinese privet and wisteria.

Bobby goes to the Dunwoody Nature Center, weekly, to complete his conservation activities. He has worked on his project for the past two months, and plans to continue through much of 2017. Of Bobby's efforts, Center Program Director Holly Loveland stated, "We have been loving the improvements you are making around here!"

An honor student in the 8th grade advanced program at Georgia Cyber Academy, Bobby is the son of Michele Babcock-Nice of Snellville and John Nice, Jr. of Lawrenceville. Bobby's conservation activities at the Dunwoody Nature Center may be followed by visiting myhornadayproject.wordpress.com.
