Snellville Leads the State in National Farmers Market Contest

It's been a month now, and votes are coming in for America's Favorite Farmers Markets contest. Snellville is holding at the top spot in Georgia.

Only in its second year, venue is leading the pack of favorite farmers markets throughout the state.

The Snellville Farmers' Market has 416 votes (and counting), as of morning time July 7. Trailing behind are: Peachtree Road Farmers Market with 109 votes, Riverside Farmers Market with 65 votes, East Atlanta Village Farmers Market with 64 votes, and Mainstreet Statesboro Farmers Market with 55 votes.

Each of these markets are in the medium-sized category, with markets having 31 to 55 vendors.

The contest is being hosted by the American Farmland Trust, in an effort to promote farm and ranch land throughout the United States. In addition, the trust works with communities to create sustainability for farms and on public policy.

Voting began on June 1, and it runs until midnight on August 31, 2011. To vote for Snellville, click here.

At the end of the contest, one small, medium, large, and boutique, farmers market will win the title of this year's “America’s Favorite Farmers Market. Winners will receive No Farms No Food totebags, a feature article on the award winning food website Epicurious.com, and other prizes.
