Snellville Sex Offender Arrested After 5-Hour Chase

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office says Quan Anthony Thomas crawled through his attic and leaped from his roof during the chase.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- A convicted sex offender jumped off of a roof trying to avoid arrest Wednesday, leading sheriff's deputies on a five-hour search before he was captured.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office was attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Quan Anthony Thomas, 30, in Snellville at about 7 p.m. Wednesday when the chase began.

The warrant was for failing to register as a sex offender.

When deputies arrived at his home, Thomas fled to the attic, escaped through an attic vent onto the roof, then jumped from the roof and ran into a wooded area, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Law enforcement, including canine units and a Gwinnett Police helicopter, began searching the woods.

Ultimately, it was a canine unit that found Woods, who authorities say was hiding in a nearby home's garage after kicking the door in.

Thomas was arrested without incident and transported to Gwinnett County Jail, where he is being held without bond.

In addition to the original warrant, he faces four new obstruction charges and a burglary charge.
