Triple Homicide Suspect in Custody After Search in New Orleans

Robert Bell was wanted in connection to a September shooting in the Snellville area.

The suspect from September'sΒ triple homicide in the Snellville area was taken into custodyΒ in New Orleans on Thursday (Oct. 24).Β 

The GwinnettΒ County Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshall’s Service developed intelligence on a possible location for Bell in the Louisiana city, according to a news release from Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith.Β 

The localΒ fugitive task force in New Orleans checked the location, a homeless shelter, and found Bell. He led law enforcement officials on aΒ brief foot chase before being taken into custody.Β 

GCPD detectives will travel to New Orleans Thursday nightΒ for a follow-up investigation. Bell will eventually be extradited to Gwinnett to face charges.

Bell was wanted in connection to fatally shooting a local woman, her 12-year-old son and 19-year-old godson, and also injuring the mother's boyfriend Sept. 15. The incident took place at the woman's home off Anderson Livsey Lane,Β where she allowed Bell and his girlfriend to stay.Β Click hereΒ to listen to the 911 calls from one of the victims and a neighbor.
Police believedΒ Bell was in New Orleans becauseΒ a pickup truckΒ that wasΒ stolenΒ half a mile away from the shooting on the same night. The vehicleΒ was recovered Oct. 2Β in the Louisiana town.Β
