UPDATE: Truck Crashes Into Snellville Church

A box truck tries to avoid traffic, but ends up stuck under an overhang at Snellville United Methodist Church.

Updated 10 a.m., June 1, 2012: say the driver of the truck was Gregory Malcolm Norfleet, 25, of Tucker. The truck is a landscaping truck. Police Chief Roy Whitehead added: "This incident occurred on private property, so no traffic citations are authorized."

Church officials are stepping into the second day of cleanup and repairs to an overhang damaged in an accident on Thursday.

The area, directly in front of the sanctuary of , gave way when a box truck tried to pass under it. The truck did not clear the overhang and knocked out several of the structural support beams.

According to a church member helping with cleanup, the driver is not affiliated with the church and was trying to cut through the property located along Highway 78.

Preparations are being made to temporarily shore up the overhang until a full damage assessment can be completed, according to an email that went out to church trustees and other members. Officials hope to have the truck removed by today.

Still, the area should be avoided by anyone visiting the church.

There was no damage caused to the sanctuary or other church buildings.

It was unknown Thursday evening if the driver of the truck was cited by .
