My commitment to community service did not begin yesterday. It began as a child growing up in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. As one of nine children, we didn't have much, but I learned early that service is not about what you have—it's about what you are willing to give.
My journey began in a Baptist church, serving on the usher board. Even then, I understood that differences in background and opportunity should never determine someone's worth or purpose. I learned to stand firm in my convictions, even when it meant standing alone.
That same courage and commitment have guided me throughout my life. I didn't discover public service when I decided to run for office. Service has always been part of who I am.
In 2022, I won the Democratic nomination for Georgia Public Service Commission, defeating two opponents. Although the election was removed from the ballot following a court challenge, I never stopped advocating for Georgians.
I kept showing up. I kept speaking out against rising utility bills, inadequate consumer protections, and the growing impact of data centers on our communities. I kept standing up for you, even when my name was no longer on the ballot.
Now, in 2026, you will hear candidates talk about their credentials, qualifications, and why they believe they can win. But leadership isn't about titles, political rhetoric, or promises. It's about a proven record of service, real-world experience, and the courage to stand up for people when it matters most.
I bring decades of corporate, government, technical, and community experience to this race. More importantly, I bring a lifelong commitment to putting people before profits.
As your next Public Service Commissioner, I will fight for affordable utility rates, stronger consumer protections, accountability, and transparency.
I didn't need a political title to serve my community then, and I don't need one now to stand up for what is right.
That little girl serving in her childhood church never stopped believing in the power of service. And neither have I.
On November 3, stand with Shelia Edwards—because I've been standing up for you long before this election.
