📰 News we're reading

• City of Springfield Taps Peed as New Municipal Court Judge • The Georgia Virtue (thegeorgiavirtue.com) — Springfield has appointed retired Superior Court Judge F. Gates Peed as its new municipal court judge, replacing longtime judge Grady Reddick after a formal application process. Peed brings decades of experience from the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit and continues to serve as a Senior Judge, meaning Springfield residents will see a very seasoned jurist overseeing local municipal cases.

• Effingham County students to eat free this school year thanks to $4.8M OpenAI grant (wtoc.com) — Families in Springfield and across Effingham County won't pay for school meals this year, as a $4.8 million OpenAI grant is covering free breakfast and lunch for all 14,148 students. District leaders say the one-year funding eases household budgets immediately, especially for those who didn't previously qualify for free or reduced meals, though its continuation beyond this school year is uncertain.
