Man Faces Federal Drug Charges After DeKalb Arrest

The U.S. Marshals Service says authorities have arrested a man accused of producing and distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine.

LITHONIA, GA — Federal authorities on Thursday say they have arrested a man on drug charges in DeKalb County.

The U.S. Marshals Service said authorities arrested Leonard Campbell after he was accused of producing and distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Campbell was tracked to an address in DeKalb; the Drug Enforcement Administration's Atlanta office lists his last known location as Lithonia. The DEA said Campbell is known by the names Nitro, Nine and Ruthless.

When authorities arrived Thursday morning, they said Campbell refused to open the door after they announced their presence. They added they tried several more verbal attempts, but ultimately, marshals breached the door.

Campbell was arrested without incident, and authorities said they then secured and executed a search warrant.

During the search, authorities said they found a loaded Glock 19x, an AR-style pistol with a loaded magazine, 5.6 pounds of suspected marijuana, 37 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine/fentanyl and a large amount of cash.

The arrest of Campbell was part of Operation Sweet Silence, which is led by the Homeland Security Task Force and targets suspects accused of having ties to suspected foreign terrorist organizations. Authorities say he will face prosecution in the Middle District of Georgia.

“The brave men and women of the US Marshals Service continue to assist our local, county, state and federal law enforcement partners (to) apprehend violent drug and weapons offenders," said Steve Serrao, U.S. Marshal (A) for the Northern District of Georgia. "In this case, working with the DEA, the US Attorney and the Dekalb County Police Department to remove this dangerous felon from our community was a priority for the USMS Northern District of Georgia.”
