3. Where is the best haunted house in Georgia? Why USA TODAY picks this one (savannahnow.com) — Stone Mountain's Netherworld Haunted House has been ranked the No. 4 haunted attraction in the country by USA TODAY's 10Best list, and it's the only Georgia spot to make the cut. The long-running Stone Mountain haunt is already open for its 2026 season, with operating dates running through Nov. 7 for locals seeking a big-budget Halloween scare close to home.
4. Stone Mountain man gets life without parole in fatal Lilburn shooting (11alive.com) — A Stone Mountain man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole plus 25 years for killing his ex-wife's sister and wounding her brother during a 2024 shooting at a Lilburn store. Gwinnett County prosecutors say the man opened fire after an altercation inside the business, and hope the sentence brings some measure of justice to the victim's family.
5. Remembering the Scientific Power Couple Who Taught Blood Vessels to Obey (scienmag.com) — Stone Mountain is noted as the place where pioneering bioengineer Dr. Larry McIntire spent his final days, as colleagues honor his and Dr. Suzie Eskin's groundbreaking work on how blood flow shapes vascular health. The tribute highlights their influential research on sickle cell disease, thrombosis, and tissue engineering, as well as their mentoring of generations of scientists worldwide.
