Tifton City Council lowers 2026 millage rate (walb.com) — Tifton property owners can expect a slightly lower city tax bill in 2026 after the City Council rolled back the millage rate to 6.114 mills and trimmed the General Fund budget. City leaders say they're prioritizing low property taxes while still funding police, fire, streets, and parks, and they urge residents to double-check assessments and exemptions.
2. Elderberry Symposium in Tifton Thursday through Saturday (southgatv.com) — Tifton residents can dive into all things elderberry at a three-day symposium running Thursday through Saturday at the UGA Conference Center on RDC Road, with both in-person and Zoom options. Farmers, food producers, and curious locals can learn from experts, shop elderberry products, and explore recipes and uses, all without leaving town.
3. City of Tifton awarded GMA Life & Health Insurance Fund's Well-Being Grant (tiftongazette.com) — City of Tifton employees will benefit from a new $9,000 Well-Being Grant awarded by the Georgia Municipal Association's Life and Health Insurance Fund. The funding supports workplace wellness initiatives aimed at improving city staff's health, morale, and overall quality of life, reinforcing Tifton's focus on employee well-being.
4. 'Kickin' Out Kids Cancer' kickball event slated for this Saturday (tiftongazette.com) — Families in and around Tifton are invited to the "Kickin' Out Kids' Cancer" kickball day this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tift County Recreation Department. The event features kids' kickball, an adult home-run derby, childhood cancer discussions, family panels, children's activities, and appearances by the Tifton Fire Department, all raising support for Jay's HOPE.
5. Map guides Georgians to fall agritourism sites (moultrieobserver.com) — Families in and around Tifton can plan a fall outing to Rutland Farms, which is featured on Georgia's new Fall Agritourism Map alongside other South Georgia destinations. The online map links to each farm's website and driving directions, helping you quickly find pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and u-pick experiences across the state this season.
