📰 News we're reading

1. Tucker City Council agrees to ban pop-up pet sales (decaturish.com) — Tucker residents should know that City Council has immediately banned pop-up pet sales, adding local enforcement power and fines for repeat offenders. Councilmembers also approved a $20 million master plan vision for Henderson Park and took the first formal step toward declaring a long-problem property on Hugh Howell Road a blight, which could sharply increase its city tax bill.

2. Georgia Cold Cases Cracked: DNA Ties Jailed Murder Suspect To Decade Of Violent Attacks (tampafp.com) — Investigators have linked a jailed murder suspect to three brutal attacks in the Tucker area dating back to 2014, using DNA and genetic genealogy to connect evidence from multiple crime scenes. DeKalb County authorities say the man now faces additional warrants for rape, kidnapping, and related charges, and remains held without bond as the cases move forward.

3. DeKalb School Board OKs policy protecting students from ICE (decaturish.com) — DeKalb County Schools just adopted a policy limiting how ICE and other law enforcement can interact with students on campus, a change that affects families across the Tucker cluster. The board also advanced a permanent superintendent finalist, approved major ESPLOST repayments that could delay some projects, and began releasing redistricting concepts focused on overcrowding in clusters including Tucker.

4. DeKalb County Schools releases new redistricting maps (decaturish.com) — Families in the Tucker school cluster are directly affected by DeKalb's new redistricting concepts, which aim to rebalance overcrowded schools and adjust boundaries by 2027. Several options would shift elementary attendance zones, including changes involving Idlewood, Brockett, Smoke Rise, Midvale, and Livsey, and residents can weigh in at a Sept. 22 meeting at Tucker High School and through an online survey.
