The vacant lot at the corner of N. Highland Avenue and St. Charles Avenue is set to transform into a neighborhood park.
Construction on New Highland Park, the site of the former neighborhood library, is set to begin this week pending permitting from the city of Atlanta.
The Virginia-Highland Civic Association and the Virginia-Highland Conservation League bought the land with plans to conserve green space in the neighborhood.
Plans for the nearly half-acre lot surround a bio-retention demonstration project, which includes a slope to capture rain water. A rain garden is also included in the plans
Construction is expected to be completed within two months.
