North Highland Avenue Restaurant Crawl

Want to know how I spent my Sunday? ... Stuffing my face at the North Highland Avenue restaurant crawl.

Last month, a couple of my friends and I decided to support a fellow Emory student who put together a restaurant crawl on Sunday, Nov. 20. Nine restaurants participated by preparing small tapas style dishes. The idea was you'd walk to all nine restaurants covering about a mile, but we used the weather as an excuse to drive.

We started the crawl promptly at 3 p.m. with where we had hand-made steamed dumplings filled with pork & fresh ginger. It wasn't anything special and only made us hungrier. The downside was that we each only got one dumpling... needless to say we were disappointed.

Next stop: . This was actually my first time dining here and I loved it. The atmosphere was great and even though we weren't paying customers the staff was prompt and friendly. They served us popcorn shrimp drizzled in sweet and sour sauce. This time we each got our own servings, which was great. Definitely need to come back for happy hour!

We started off the next cluster of restaurants at . Now I'm from North Carolina where BBQ is taken very seriously and we pride ourselves on making some of the best in the country so I'm always a little skeptical of BBQ joints... Unfortunately we didn't get a mini savory BBQ sandwich, but we did get rib tips with a side of cream corn and I was pleasantly surprised! The table sauces are must.

Fourth stop was at the infamous where we had the fried chicken tacos. I'm obsessed. Enough said.

prepared a seasonal focaccia pizzetta, which was pretty tasty, but the highlight was the death-by-chocolate cookie. For anyone who loves chocolate and nuts, you MUST try this cookie. In the words of the baker, it's "divine!"

Went next door to where we had something called Ahi Poki, which is a Hawaiian marinated and diced tuna sashimi marinated in sriracha on house made wonton chips. The wonton chip looked like a brittle nacho chip, but the tuna was delicious. I felt like a little kid admiring their fish tanks filled with Nemo look-alikes!

We ran into a bunch of our classmates over at enjoying some PBR and spicy chicken wings watching the Titans vs. Falcons game (go Falcons!) and then ended the crawl at with some sweet potato fries. We ran out of time so we didn't get to enjoy , but from what I heard it was only bruschetta.

For $10 I came home stuffed and exhausted. The proceeds went directly to Share Our Strength, a national non-profit fighting to end child hunger in the U.S. Enjoying good food, good company, and helping out hungry children? Not a bad way to spend a lazy November Sunday.
