In Case You Missed It: DeKalb City Called a Top Terrorist Sanctuary

Conservative America says Clarkston is one of 18 terrorist sanctuaries in America.

DeKalb County GA -- Already home to what have called the worst community in America, Clarkston is getting more bad press.

An organization known as Conservative America has named the DeKalb County city as one of 18 terrorist sanctuary cities.

“Clarkston has a long history of having the federal government place immigrants into its community,” the organization said. “Clarkston was picked during the 1990’s as an ideal testing ground when the federal government first went into communities to determine if social engineering would work.

“But what has transpired over the last 20 years? Crime has gotten out of control ... Former Police Chief Tony Scipio once stated: ’What we’re finding out from interviewing these suspects and perpetrators is that all eyes are on Clarkston because of the large influx of refugees and immigrants. They are easily preyed [upon].’”

The report fails to note that Scipio’s comments were about crime perpetrated on refugees, who are often vulnerable because they may not yet speak English or fully understand how to summon law enforcement or report crimes, rather than crime perpetrated by refugees themselves.

The organization also criticizes Clarkston Mayor Edward Terry for saying that his city is willing to accept more refugees from the Middle East and Africa, reports the AJC.

“Why would Mayor Terry want so desperately to bring more Muslims into Clarkston?” the organization said. “The first answer is obvious. The young, up and coming, Democrat sees an opportunity to put his name on the page with the heavy-hitter Democrat mayors in other cities across the country who are asking Barack Obama to import ’refugees’ into their communities.

“Mayor Terry’s Vice Mayor is Clarkston City Council member Ahmed Hassan, who is originally from Somalia. In 2013, Hassan became the first former refugee and new immigrant to take elective office in Clarkston, which has immigrants from more than 50 countries… no small feat in a town with under 8,000 residents.”

Brannen Hill, a rundown condominium complex in Clarkston that is home to numerous immigrants and refugees, has gained national attention for its harsh conditions, and was recently christened possibly the worst community in America by the Deen Media Center.

Brannen Hill is home to about 400 refugees, mainly from Somalia, who have settled there due to the proximity of a nearby immigrant community.

Clarkston has received national and international media coverage for its role as a kind of modern-day Ellis Island that serves as a first stop in the U.S. for refugees from dozens of countries around the world.
