CORE Performance Company presents world premiere of a home is a home is a home September 26

Site-specific dance performance created the Mi Casa, Your Casa installation at the High Museum of Art

CORE Performance Company opens its 29th annual Atlanta performance season with the world premiere performance of a home is a home is a home at the Sifly Piazza on the Woodruff Arts Center campus on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The performances will be accompanied by live music from Bent Frequency, Georgia State University’s ensemble-in-residence.

Created by CORE Artistic Director Sue Schroeder in collaboration with the artists of CORE Performance Company, the site-specific dance work was commissioned by the High Museum of Art for its Mi Casa, Your Casa interactive outdoor art installation by renowned contemporary Mexican designers-in-residence, Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena.

a home is a home is a home explores the concept of “home,” places of origin, and the social units formed among people when living together. The piece was created specifically for the Mi Casa, Your Casa installation, in which 36 three-dimensional Esrawe and Cadena-designed structures form a community of open frames in the shape of a house on the High Museum’s Sifly Piazza. The installation, which runs through Nov. 2, is free and open to the public and encourages visitors to enjoy and engage with the environment through recreation, social interaction, performances, and art-making activities.

“CORE Performance Company has a rich history of creating dance in both museum environments and other site-specific contexts, and this dynamic project allows us to align these traditions in a significant way,” states Schroeder. “We’re excited to open our 2014-15 season with these performances, and look forward to continuing our engagement with Atlanta’s visual arts community through the season.”

CORE Performance Company will return to Mi Casa, Your Casa with a new work, Je Suis/I am, on Oct. 18. For more information about CORE performances, visit www.COREdance.org.
