Emory Prof Wins Literature Award

Jackson to be honored at convention in January

The Modern Language Association of America will honor an professor with a prestigious award next month.

Lawrence Jackson has been awarded the 10th annual William Sanders Scarborough Prize for his book “The Indignant Generation: A Narrative History of African American Writers and Critics, 1934–1960,” published in 2010.

The prize is awarded for an outstanding scholarly study of black American literature or culture, according to a news release.

Jackson, an English and African American studies professor, will be honored among 18 award recipients during the association’s annual convention in January 2012.
