Emory Students Win Scholarships

Three students win Truman, Goldwater Scholarships

Three students were recognized this week for outstanding accomplishments.

  • Emory University junior Stephanie Spangler was selected as a 2011 Truman Scholar. She is one of 60 students in the nation to "receive the competitive fellowship meant to foster careers in government and public service," according to a press release from Emory. Students are chosen for the scholarship "on the basis of leadership potential, intellectual ability and likelihood of 'making a difference,'" the release said.
  • Emory juniors Moiez Ali and Jonathan Lin were awarded the Goldwater Scholarship. The scholarship is named after the late Sen. Barry Goldwater. It "provides up to $7,500 annually for tuition or other education-related expenses in their remaining years at Emory," according to the release.
